The attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to a bigger club on more than one occasion, but he’s eager to remain with the Partenopei.

Marek Hamsik has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Napoli this summer despite the transfer rumour mill again linking him with a summer exit.

The Slovakia international joined Napoli from Brescia in the summer of 2007 and has since seen the Stadio San Paolo side become one of Serie A’s top teams.

Hamsik is not satisfied with the club’s progress just yet, though, and is determined to help them make the final step up in the years to come.

“For six seasons we’ve developed together, Napoli and me. We can still climb even higher. I’m comfortable here and I’d like to continue to grow with Napoli,” the attacking midfielder told the official Fifa website.

“I was 19 when I arrived here. Nobody knew who I was, but Napoli didn’t hesitate to give me a chance.”

Hamsik has impressed both in midfield and in attack and insists he is happy to play in whatever role the coach has in mind for him.

“What’s my ideal position? I just adapt; I really don’t have a preference. I can operate in a three-man attack or just behind two front men. It’s all fine by me, he added.

“That’s kind of like [Pavel] Nedved, as he worked hard in midfield but could also score goals. But I also like players such as Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Zinedine Zidane.”

Hamsik netted 11 goals in 38 Serie A appearances this term, while creating 14 more.
