Former Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain was taking a trip by boat to the island of Capri, and while there slipped on a rock that required him to receive two stiches to his eyebrow, and eight to his jaw.

The Argentinian striker had just played his first game for new club Napoli following a move from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Following the fall and the immediate treatment in the hospital where the 25-year-old remained conscious at all times and was greeted by club medics who escorted him to the hotel where he has been living since his arrival at the San Paolo.

A club doctor will assess the situation ahead of next Saturdays match with Chievo, but the player is expected to report for training as usual tomorrow.

Higuain started in the Partenopei’s 3-0 win over the weekend but was replaced by youngster Josip Radosevic after playing 84 minutes.
