After previously missing out on the striker to Zenit St. Petersburg, Chelsea once again are chasing Hulk.

Under Andre-Vilas Boas the club were reportedly close to the signature of the then Porto forward, however a deal couldn't be done.

Since then Hulk has moved to Russia and Zenit, but has struggled to adapt to life there and is rumoured to be on his way out of the club.

The Russian side want to re-coup most of the £40million they spent on bringing Hulk club, meaning Chelsea will have to pay big bucks to get their man.

New manager Jose Mourinho has money available to him and wants to make early inroads into the transfer market and wants a deal done soon.

With the attacking trio of Edin Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar preferring to play centrally, the need for a winger is evident.

The signing of Marko Marin hasn't worked and it's expected he'll return to Germany this summer.

Hulk's versatility means he can also play through the middle as a centre-forward, which given the inconsistency of both Fernando Torres and Demba Ba is another positive behind this retrospective deal.

Other targets

Mourinho is reportedly also close to signing Bayern Leverkusen's Andre Schurrle.

The German has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for months and the deal would probably have happened with or without Mourinho.

Perhaps surprisingly, another linked with a move to Chelsea is Edin Dzeko.

The forward has frequently stated his desire to play more consistently and a move away from Manchester City is likely.
