According to Goal.Com Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is saying that the Gunners are unlikely to sign anyone but refuses to rule out a possible late addition to the team, while at the same time expressing his desire to extend Thomas Vermaelen’s contract with Arsenal.

This news will of course be disappointing to Arsenal fans who were expecting at the very least a striker to arrive at the Emirates, yet the Frenchman caught everyone off guard last summer when he signed Mesut Özil so there is still plenty of time for Wenger to pull a rabbit out of a hat

“It’s looks unlikely that we will sign anyone. We are not close to anything,” he told reporters.

“If something exceptional turns up of course we will do it.”

When speaking about Vermaelen Wenger said:  “I’m ready to extend Vermaelen’s contract. He is a quality player and I’m open to it.”
