Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld is close to signing for Atletico Madrid after indicating that he would rather move to the Spanish capital than to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old earlier this month turned down an offer to play in Russia for Spartak Moscow, and now looks set to be on his way to Atletico Madrid for £5 million.
Atletico are in a position to offer the Dutchman Champions League football, and with his arrival it will allow Manchester City to complete the transfer of Martin Demichelis allowing him to be reunited with former Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini.
