As the transfer clock ticks away Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is yet to spend a penny of the £70 million he has been given by the club to invest in new players.

At the moment he seems to be pinning all his hopes on the Real Madrid trio of Karim Benzema, Mesut Özil and Angel Di Maria in an attempt to show the fans that he is serious about winning trophies.

After last night’s Champions League draw that see’s Arsenal come up against , Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli it is more apparent than ever that Arsenal need to strengthen their squad, and that they are lacking a world class striker.

The Gunners have opened talks with the Spanish giants who themselves will be keen to get back some of the £86 million they have spent to acquire Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, despite the three players in question saying that they want to stay at Madrid.

With Arsenals Lukas Podolski expected to be out for up to 10 weeks there is a genuine need for at least Benzema to join the club but as we have seen with the dealing with Bale it can take a while for things to come together, time that a dither like Wenger does not have, and if Spurs should win with their new signings on Sunday the pressure will really be on the Frenchman to sign players before the window closes on Monday night.
