Javier Pastore

Liverpool did fantastic business during last January transfer window picking up a couple of bargains in Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, and look set to do it again going after Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentinian midfielder Javier Pastore.

The 24-year-old midfielder was the first of the French giant’s big-spending signings when he arrived at the club from Palermo back in 2011.

Since then however he has failed to impress, and was linked with a move away during the summer but decided to stay and see if he could impress new coach Laurent Blanc.

Now following a difficult start to the new season the playmakers agent says that Pastore is looking to leave.

‘In football there are always ups and downs,’ said Marcelo Simonian.

‘He has been happy there, but now is not the time for nostalgia. We will see what happens in the next few months.’

Liverpool will take this as an invitation to go after the Pastore a player that the club has been tracking for some time.

Back in the summer Liverpool unsuccessfully tried to sign two similar players, and missed out both times.

The assumption is that the transfer fee will be around £17 million, and while AC Milan and Napoli have expressed interest  Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello sport says that Liverpool are quietly confident of signing him.
