Despite Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger saying that he will remain on alert until the very last minute of the transfer window fans are beginning to worry that he will not sign a new striker before the window closes even though he knows that Giroud will be out until next year with a broken foot.

Following the 2-2 draw at Everton the Gunners boss revealed that he may not add to the squad in the remaining days of the window claiming that he was happy with the players that he has.

The 64-year-old Frenchman said: “You have decided I have to buy strikers. I’ve not decided. The squad we have, we have enough to be successful.

“Why not? Sanogo, Sanchez, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud. Campbell. Of course we can be successful.

“We buy when we have to strengthen the squad. We spend when we have to. It is harder to buy top top players because everyone is in the market and we all know each other.”

Gary Lineker said on Thursday that Arsenal must add some firepower to their team if they hope to win any silverware this season after watching new signing Alexis Sanchez playing up front rather than in a more wider role that he prefers.

In reply to the former England players comments Wenger said: ‘We live in a society of opinions.’

‘People are better informed these days. Many of them are better informed than I am. But all of these opinions don’t mean people are right.

‘Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that doesn’t mean it’s right.

‘In fact, when opinions have been wrong in the past, people have never come out and say “sorry I was wrong” – the easiest thing is to have an opinion.’

The Arsenal boss thinks that his experience could prove vital in the remaining hours of the window saying: ‘It’s harder to buy top, top players because many clubs are on the market and everybody knows each other.’

‘The last few days are poker games. There are a lot of lies there and everyone is interested in the same player, even if you’re the only one who wants the player.

‘Of course (having experience of operating late in the window helps). You can call it bluff when it’s bluff.’
