Today’s Sunday Times is reporting that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has signed a new deal with the Premiership giants that will see him finish his playing career at Old Trafford.

The new believed to be a whopping £70 million will see the England international remain with his current club until 2018.

Over the past few seasons Rooney has been linked with a move away from Manchester including the controversial transfer request back in 2010 when he threatened to join United rivals Manchester City.

Following the retirement of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson Rooney was once again linked with a move away to Chelsea with Blues manager Jose Mourinho not hiding his desire to sign the striker who he claimed was the only player he was interested in last summer.

The new deal with United will see Rooney earning a record breaking salary of £300,000 per-week which is £50 per-week more than he is currently on.

Despite United’s poor performance this season Rooney is still playing at a top level having scored nine goals along with nine assists three behind Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas.
