No sooner had Bayer Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri scored his hat-trick for Switzerland in the World Cup against Honduras the news emerged from transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio that the Swiss star is on the verge of signing for Liverpool.

The news of Liverpool’s pursuit will come as nothing new, but there had been talk that Shaqiri would be staying at the Allianz Arena with uncertainty remaining over the fitness of Franck Ribery.

Di Marzio however thinks a Liverpool move is a done deal writing on his blog:

The Swiss footballer, who scored three goals today in the World Cup, is liked by Milan and Roma, but Liverpool has the advantage over the other teams.

Shaqiri’s brother, who is also his agent, is currently in England to meet with Liverpool’s management and discuss the economic details of the contract.

His departure from Bayern Munich is close, Shaqiri appears to be heading to the Premier League.

Unfortunately he was unable to say how much Liverpool were prepared to pay for the Bayern Player, but if you look at the Liverpool team as a whole the Swiss youngster would certainly fit into what Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to build at Anfield.
