SEPP BLATTER FOR FIFTH TIME: RIGHT OR WRONG?

It was always going to come to this with Sepp Blatter’s intention shown several months back.

The stepping down of Michel Platini clearly leaves the 78 year old in control of what will be his 5th time in the office with virtually no one to contest and win him to the election.

At this age, it’s expected Sepp Blatter would have thought of stepping down as the president if not during but after his current tenure.

The 78-year-old was first elected into office in 1998 and he is presently serving his fourth term as FIFA president.

Blatter was elected unopposed in 2011 after Mohamed Bin Hammam stepped down before the election.

Sepp Blatter then declared it will be his last time in the office but has recently stated he will run for the fifth time as FIFA president.

Giving an interview in Manchester, the 78-year old disclosed that he just reconsidered and will be ready to complete his mission: “I will be ready. I will be a candidate to stand for fifth term as president. My mission is not finished.”

It’s left to be seen what mission Sepp Blatter is trying to complete.

It is a norm for leaders to come with a manifesto and end up stating they have more to do.

Many of the other people at the top can’t complain much because they have the same mentality about leadership.

It’s good to have vision but it’s inappropriate to stay on in a particular place for more than 10 years disclosing every time it will be your last shot and yet you stand to contest another election.

Sepp Blatter is old enough to retire form this and if he is made the president again which is most likely, he will be over 80 years of age by the end of the tenure.

Leadership is more of integrity and that’s what most leader’s lack.

There were times during Blatter’s tenure that the leadership body has been accused of mismanagement of fund or illegal dealings.

It seems no one cares about what is going on in FIFA but very few are ready to put the wrongs right.

Michel Platini has already declared he won’t contest with Sepp Blatter as initially planned and rather he will re-run for the post of UEFA president.

“I will make an official declaration definitely in September now when we have the Executive Committee [meeting on Sept. 25-26].

“I will inform the Executive Committee.

It’s a question of respect also to say then to the football family: ‘Yes I will be ready. I will be a candidate.’

He will be a candidate when no one will run with him.

It’s out of this world to think FIFA is highly corrupt ad that’s why they don’t have a say or a hold on smaller bodies like the Nigeria Football Federation.

It is important to know that there won’t be a change neither will there be progress if the same set of people keep staying at the top.
