Italian Serie A side Roma is now said to be ready to battle Liverpool for Benfica star player Lazar Markovic according to talkSPORT.

So far Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been very active in the transfer market signing Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Adam Lallana for close to £40 million and it would appear as if the Reds boss is not done yet as they seek to add the Serbian winger Lazar Markovic to the list of new players.

The Portuguese club is desperate to hang on to one of their best players but with Liverpool ready to cash in on Luis Suarez the Merseyside club will easily be able to afford the £25 million that Benfica is seeking.

Meanwhile sources in Italy claim Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is looking into the possibility of bringing Markovic to the Italian capital after an impressive first season in Portugal since singing from Partizan Belgrade in which the 20-year-old scored 13 goals.
