According to reports in Italy former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is set to make a shock return to the Northwest club after having been fired in 2013.

Since then the 50-year-old Italian spent time with Turkish giants Galatasaray before moving to his current club Inter Milan.

Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset is reporting that Mancini will return to the club as director of football and that Sampdoria boss Sinisa Mihajlovic will take over as manager from the departing Manuel Pellegrini.

Mancini and Mihajlovic know each other well from their playing days at Sampdoria, and are both said to be looking forward to working together at the Etihad.
