Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is according to the Times monitoring contract negotiations with Arsenal forward Theo Walcott very closely, with an eye to signing the England international if Arsenal fails in their attempt to offer him a new contract.

The last time the England international sat down for talks he was in a position of power at the Emirates and managed to drag the negotiations out until he eventually got what he wanted.

This time however after a lengthy spell out of the first team due to injury he now finds himself on the bench with former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck Wenger’s preferred choice.

Liverpool is currently undergoing their own transfer saga with Raheem Sterling, but is also keeping an eye on what is happening with the 26-year-old Gunner, with some reports suggesting that should they sell Sterling Walcott would automatically become a target for Brendan Rodgers.
