Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona

Real Madrid wins Super Copa over rivals Barcelona on the away goal rule.

Behind from the first leg at the Nou Camp 3-2 Real got off to a blinding start in Madrid with early goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Barcelona’s Adriano was given his marching orders after 27 minutes for hauling down Ronaldo as the striker was going for goal.

Now down to ten men Barca got a free kick right on the stroke of half time allowing Messi to score from a perfectly taken set piece 25 yards out.

With both teams having chances but failing to score Madrid held on for the victory and the cup.

Final score 2-1 with Madrid wining 4-4 on aggregate.

After the match when interviewed Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova said: “The first thing I do is congratulate Madrid. I’m Proud because in the second half with only ten men we had five chances in the Bernabeu. ”

I do not think it’s a moral blow: “There is a psychological blow. We preferred to win, but this defeat does not mark the season. Much remains to be seen in the League games”.
