Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been given the green light to sign Dutch winger Memphis Depay at the end of the season, after the Eredivisie club said they will be willing to let him go.

United has been strongly linked with the man they call the Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo since last summer, with Louis van Gaal known to be a huge fan of the 21-year-old.

United approached PSV last summer as did Tottenham who put in a bid of £15 million, but at the time the Eindhoven based club were unwilling to sell.

It would appear they are now however willing to let him leave to the highest bidder.

‘We decided to keep hold of him in January,’ PSV director Toon Gerbrands told reporters.

‘But he has the option to leave after this season.’

Could this be the start of LVG’s summer spending spree?
