The Barcelona defender, and friend of United target Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique claims Manchester United are wasting their time trying to get Fabregas to leave the La Liga champions.

It is understood that after having their first offer rejected United have made another much more substantial approach, and are waiting on an answer.

However Pique, who used to play for United, is quoted in the British tabloid newspaper The Sun as saying: “United are wasting their time.

“It took a long time for Cesc to get his dream move back home and he won’t give it up.

“This is home. It is where his family is, and he is playing with his closest friends.

“He has told us he is happy and that he intends to stay with Barcelona.”

Reports coming out of Spain suggest that Barcelona has rejected the Northwest clubs latest offer.

Speaking in Yokohama yesterday United manager Moyes said: “As I understand it, Ed had a response (to the first offer). We have made a second offer but Ed is dealing with it rather than me
