Fifty years ago to the day, a few months before JFK was killed and The Beatles released their first album, José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix was born in Setúbal. A life in football awaited him, and after a storied journey through the game, Mou settled on a career in the dugout.

It is as a coach that ‘Mou’ has made his mark, chalking up a list of achievements you’d need several hands to count. His track record reads like that of a veteran long since retired, but the current Real Madrid coach is far from it – he is at the height of his powers.

Mou, who was born in the same year as the likes of Michael Jordan and Quentin Tarantino, captured his first trophy aged 40 and hasn’t looked back since. He has enjoyed a decade littered with glory that puts him amongst the most decorated managers ever, and with plenty of time to add to his feats.

Seven league titles, six cups and four super cups across four different countries, two Champions Leagues and a UEFA Cup. Half a century into his life, Mou has earned his self-anointed nickname of the ‘Special One’. He has triumphed in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, and stood on top of Europe in 2004 and 2010.

However, there is another side to Mourinho, a series of blots on his otherwise outstanding CV. From poking Tito Vilanova in the eye to waiting for a referee in a car park and a UEFA ban for bringing the game into disrepute, the Portuguese coach has had as much controversy as he has success.
