Spanish sports newspaper Sport is claiming that Manchester United is prepared to pay a world-record price of £120 million in order to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.

Just a few days earlier the Daily Express revealed that the Welshman would be happy to return to the Premiership and play for Manchester United.

According to Sport, Los Blancos will sign Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus as Bales replacement with the 25-year-old available for as little as £20 million which means the European champions could bank a whopping £100 million.

The deal would effectively allow trainer Carlo Ancelotti plenty of funds for him to strengthen other areas of the team while still being within the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal when recently asked about Bale refused to comment only saying: “I cannot discuss that with you,” he said. “I discuss that with my CEO and not anyone from the media.”

Reus is expected to leave Dortmund in the summer, and with a move to Real Madrid now on the cards quite a few premiership teams will have to start looking for alternatives.
