According to reports in France Manchester United is preparing a massive £62 million bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani after having decided not to make Radamel Falcao’s move permanent in the summer.

Le 10 Sport claims that the Red Devils will open talks with last season’s French champions once the current season comes to a close.

Arsenal were also looking at Cavani, but it would appear that manager Arsene Wenger is for now at least only interested in signing a centre-back and a holding midfielder after claiming he had too many up front options which is why has allowed Lukas Podolski to join Inter Milan on loan.

Come the summer United’s financial firepower should enable them to sign the Uruguayan striker ahead of the Gunners with United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward saying: “We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes.

“However we have targets that we are looking at for next summer. Should any of them become available in January – which obviously is rare – we will consider acting. But in terms of expectations-setting we all need to recognise that is a low probability.”

Arsene Wenger recently gave his take on the rumours linking Cavani to the Emirates saying: “I don’t give any importance to rumours.

“There was a rumour two days ago in France that I offered £62 million for Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain. Every day there is a different rumour so I don’t give importance to that.”

A move appears to be definitely on for Cavani who is said to be unhappy at PSG as to who will sign him we will just have to wait and see.
