According to the Sun on Sunday Manchester City is prepared to make an offer for Manchester United and Arsenal striker target Gonzalo Higuain.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini is preparing for the departure of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, and wants to replace the pair with a big name signing.

Both players appear to be heading to Italy with Dzeko a target for Roma while Roberto Mancini’s Inter Milan are keen on signing Montenegrin international Jovetic.

Of all the top name strikers out there being linked to a move to the Premiership, the 27-year-old Argentinian international is the only one who is 100% available after Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis said that he would sell the former Real Madrid striker only if his whopping £65 million release clause was met.

And while City could certainly afford to pay that kind of money, as could United and Arsenal the question remains as to whether any player other than Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is actually worth that kind of money.
