Using a totally different tactic to their Premiership rivals Chelsea, Manchester United has discretely asked Everton to keep them informed should the Toffee’s decide to sell England defender John Stones, hoping to take advantage after the Blues infuriated Everton boss Roberto Martinez by their public approach for the 21-year-old.

Martinez claims that Chelsea has gone about trying to complete any kind of dealing the wrong way, and has now buy openly telling the world they have bid £20 million for the Everton youngster unsettled the defender during his pre-season training.

United meanwhile has been following the development of Stones for some time, and despite Chelsea just throwing cash at the Merseyside club for their star player is willing to offer Jonny Evans along with cash in order to see a deal done.

The news from Old Trafford is that manager Louis van Gaal has already told the 27-year-old Evans that he is free to leave once United has secured his replacement, with Valencia’s Nicholas Otamendi looking earmarked for that role.

Arsenal is also said to be interested in Stones so it would appear perhaps only a matter of time until one of the Premierships top sides temps Everton with the £38 million that they are looking to receive for their future star.
