Manchester City according to reports in Thursdays Daily Mirror is set to hire Lionel Messi’s first coach at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy Rodolfo Borrell as their new International Technical Director.

Borrell last worked as the boss of Liverpool’s youth academy joining the Reds during the time Rafa Benitez was the manager in 2009, but has been out of work since last November.

The 52-year-old Spaniards new duties will see him work with Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano as part of a team that will not only take care of youth development at the Eastland’s, but also overseeing  2015 MLS newcomers New York City FC and Australian outfit Melbourne Heart.

Borrell’s experience in youth football is expected to play a big part in City’s long term plan of becoming player self-sufficient after having built a £100 million academy facility next to the Etihad Stadium that they modelled after AC Milan’s Milanello training base.
