Liverpool probably does not know how lucky they are to have managed to persuade James Milner to move to Anfield once his contract with Manchester City is up this summer.

Burnley striker Danny Ings also appears close to signing as well, but it is not all plane sailing in other areas of the team with Brendan Rodgers still needing a right-back, a goalkeeper and if possible a top name striker which may prove to be more problematic than you would think.

The trouble for Liverpool is that they are not involved in Champions League football next season, and that is what all the top players want, and could be the reason why despite putting in a bid for Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto the 21-year-old would prefer to join Arsenal instead.

The same goes for Christian Benteke as well following his comments about wanting to play in the Champions League.

From what we are hearing Liverpool manager Rodgers could only be given £20 million by the Fenway Sporting Group to spend on new players which means in order to get the players that he needs it will be necessary to sell players he no longer has plans for which may include Mario Balotelli if the club can find anyone willing to pay the Italians £90,000 per-week salary.

Looking even more certain for a departure is the one player quite a few clubs are after and that is Raheem Sterling who could be sold for as much as £50 million.

This combined with what Rodgers can get for other players would go into his transfer kitty, but it still seems small when you consider what Manchester United and City have available to spend.
