According to the Times newspaper Liverpool has entered the race for Hoffenheim’s Brazilian midfielder Roberto Firmino, and is prepared to do their best in getting the 23-year-old to choose Anfield over Old Trafford.

Currently Firmino is on international duty with Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho as Brazil compete in this summer’s Copa America in Chile, with the Reds hoping his fellow countryman can tilt the odds in their favour.

Firmino can play either as an attacking midfielder or an all-out forward, and has enjoyed his time in Germany scoring 49 goals in 153 appearances for Hoffenheim since joining the club from Figueirense in 2011.

And while a deal is yet to be done the arrival of another Brazilian on Merseyside would go a long way in filling the void left by Raheem Sterling who is expected to be sold this summer.
