While Liverpool fans have had to digest the news that Captain Steven Gerrard would be leaving at the end of the summer, there is now some sunshine after the rain, and it is the news that Raheem Sterling has signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2020.

While there have been reports that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were interested in the Liverpool forward Jason Burt of the Sunday Telegraph has written:

“Sterling, 20, is understood to have rebuffed an initial offer but Liverpool do not now anticipate any hitches. The forward was initially offered a pay rise taking him to £70,000 a week but his representatives were understood to be holding out for £120,000 a week. It is thought that the two parties have met somewhere in the middle and Sterling’s new deal will be heavily incentivised, as was the contract signed recently by Daniel Sturridge.”

This of course is great news for Liverpool, and we cannot wait to see him play alongside Daniel Sturridge and hopefully propel the Reds to a top-four finish.
