Liverpool is very much interested in signing Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho, who they see as the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard when he leaves in the summer to join the LA Galaxy of the MLS.
The Reds were strongly linked with the 22-year-old in January, but were unable to do a deal at that time, but are still scouting him with Sporting Witness saying Liverpool had scouts present on Sunday to watch the Portuguese international in action against Porto.
Arsenal is also in the market for a defensive midfielder in the summer, and has been linked with both Carvalho and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, who is expected to be available for around £25 million while Sporting has slapped a £37.5 million release clause on the head of their powerful midfielder.
