Liverpool is still winning the race to sign £32.5m Striker

Liverpool is still winning the race to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke despite interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils currently only have to strikers in Wayne Rooney and youngster James Wilson with Louis van Gaal reportedly interested in Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller and Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

At the moment it looks like a deal involving Angel Di Maria going to the French champions in part-exchange for Cavani could be on, and with Muller priced at over £50 million and the Germans not eager to sell, Christian Benteke could be a viable second option for a move to Old Trafford .

According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Liverpool is still the frontrunner to sign Benteke signature, with the windfall they received from the sale of Raheem Sterling easily enough to cover Villa’s £32.5 million valuation.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to find a goal-scorer, after his team only found the back of the net 52 times last season and an acquisition such as the big Belgium international could go a long way in upping the tally next season, as not only can the 24-year-old score goals, just his presence in and around the area opens up space for other players to score.
