Liverpool executive officer Ian Ayre has disappointed a host of Premiership rivals after announcing that Raheem Sterling will not be going anywhere this summer despite the youngster’s refusal to sign a new £100,000 per-week contract at Anfield.

Liverpool appears ready to get tough with Sterling’s agent Aidy Ward with Ayre saying: “Raheem’s agent has asked that we park all discussions regards his future until the summer. We respect that.

“Raheem is a Liverpool player and has two years left on his contract. We expect Raheem Sterling to be here for a long time.”

Meanwhile it still remains to be seen how the Merseyside club would react should Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea offer them £50 million for the 20-year-old.

Sterling scored his 11th goal of the season during Monday night’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United to keep the Reds hope of Champions League football alive finding themselves now four-points behind fourth place Manchester City.
