Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made a strategic decision to leave star striker Christian Benteke at home to rest up for Sundays Premier League match against Norwich at Anfield on Sunday, as the Reds travel to Bordeaux to take on the Ligue 1 side in their Europa Cup opener tonight in France, according to The Mirror.

Instead it will Benteke’s Belgium international teammate Divock Origi who will lead the Reds line, with the former Lille striker no stranger as to what he will face when the club takes on the French side at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

Liverpool is currently tenth in the league following back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Manchester United, and Northern Irishman Rodgers knows that his job could be in jeopardy should Liverpool not finish in the top-four this season.

Adam Lallana could also feature in tonight’s match along with Philippe Coutinho, while back up goalkeeper Adam Bogdan could make his debut.
