JOSE MOURINHO last night branded this the worst year of his career after Real Madrid’s crushing Cup final defeat to Atletico.

The Real boss was sent off for dissent after going mad at ref Carlos Clos Gomez in normal time before Miranda struck Atletico’s winner in extra time.

Mourinho, set to quit and return to Chelsea this summer, will finish his Bernabeu career with a trophyless season.

He said: “The third season here with these results is a failure. As I say when things go well is merit of everyone and when things go badly the manager fails.

“It’s not the players who fail or the structure but the manager. In football going close doesn’t exist. It is my worst season.

“A season that for many is good, with a Champions League semi-final and second place in the league, a cup final and a Supercup, for me is a failure.

“I have never left a season without winning an important title and in that sense I have failed.”

Mourinho refused to talk about his future yet again, claiming he will do that after holding talks with Real president Florentino Perez.

Carlo Ancelotti is already lined up to replace him at the Bernabeu.

Mourinho added: “I have contract for three more years. I have not yet sat down with the president to speak of the future.

“It seems normal that they speak about Ancelotti. Also they talk about me going to Chelsea so it’s a normal situation.

“I can promise honesty that the day the president sits down with me to decide what we are going to do we will immediately announce it.”

The under-fire Real boss hinted that the meeting with Perez could take place before the end of the season as the Spanish giants have to play two more matches before La Liga concludes.

He added: “We have to play the last two games seriously but when we sit down with the president we will decide.

“I think it’s normal that we don’t have to wait till the end of the season to tell the fans.”

As for his sending off in the final he added: “I prefer not to say anything.”

Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid ahead after 14 minutes but Diego Costa levelled before the interval.

Ronaldo was also sent off controversially in extra time after being felled by Gabi and catching the Atletico skipper with a flailing leg in the face.

Gabi also got his marching orders with a second booking late on.

Thibaut Courtois, on loan from Chelsea, was Atletico’s man of the match but Mourinho refused to be drawn as to whether he would take him back at the Bridge when he takes charge.

He added: “I think he’s a fantastic young goalkeeper, great potential and I think his club has to decide his future and his club is Chelsea.

“He made fantastic saves and not just fantastic saves he also had St Mary behind the goal because three balls in the post is too much.”
