With John Terry likely to leave Chelsea this summer, the Blues could do with the signing of another centre back. And if Terry stays, Chelsea would do well to bring in someone else who is younger to learn from the former England skipper and finally take over from him once he retires. Added to the fact that Kurt Zouma may actually not regain his form back once he recovers from the long term injury he is nursing.

And according to report, that new centre back could be highly rated Danish centre back Simon Kjaer who currently plays for Fenerbahce in the Turkish league. According to Turkish media outlet Fanatik, Chelsea are interested in signing the player and have been keeping close tabs on his progress with Fenerbahce with the hope of making a move for him this season.

Only recently Kjaer’s agent confirmed his client will like to remain with Fener for and help the club win trophies; “Simon is only focused on Fenerbahce and helping the club to win the title that they deserve.” However, it remains to be seen if the Denmark international will be able to turn down an offer to play for Chelsea.

According to the report, Fenerbahce on their part are ready to sanction a sale of the player should they receive an offer upward of €15 million (£12.1 million) which shouldn’t be a big problem for Chelsea. Antonio Conte and Simon Kjaer worked together when both were at Palermo and should understand each other well.
