When Arsenal signed Gabriel Paulista from Villa Real two winters ago, Arsenal fans thought their club had signed a player who is capable of finally caving a good partnership with Laurent Koscielny. After been freeze out of the team for sometime as he took his time to learn the English language, Paulista has been a regular for Arsene Wenger’s side in recent time but the regular playing time he has gotten in recent weeks has only managed to expose how error prone he can be.

The Brazilian has made errors upon errors in all the matches he has played and with Per Mertesacker who turns 32 in September looking like he will be leaving Arsenal at the end of his current deal by June 2017, Arsenal could do with the signing of another centre back.

Although on Paper, Arsenal have four centre backs in Koscienly, Paulista, Mertesacker and Calum Chambers but everyone agrees that aside Koscielny, Arsenal’s centre backs aren’t good enough and as such, the Gunners have been linked with the signing various centre backs. One of such is AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas. According to reports, Manolas is a prime target for Arsenal this summer and the Gunners are ready to pay the £35 million asking price by AS Roma.

However, Chelsea are also interested in signing the Greek man and will hope to beat Arsenal to his signing. The Blues are said to want Greek defender as they try to replace soon to depart captain John Terry. Antonio Conte is said to want the centre back as part of his team next season and are ready to pay his asking price.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, and fortunately for Arsenal, the Blues lack of Champions league football could help Arsenal sign the player ahead of Chelsea.
