Italian Serie A giants AS Roma is the latest club to show an interest in Manchester City midfielder James Milner, and are willing to battle it out for his signature with Liverpool.

The Manchester City and England international is out of contract in the summer with Liverpool reportedly very close to getting Milner to agree to an Anfield move.

Roma however could now scuttle the Reds plans by making the very versatile player a part of their summer transfer plans, and have sporting director Walter Sabatini considering jetting in to Manchester for face to face talks with the player.

With Milner so close to becoming a free agent he is allowed to meet with the Giallorossi boss who will try to pursued him to move to the Olympic Stadium instead of a switch to Anfield, according to Calciomercato.

Talks between Manchester City and the 29-year-old appear to have stalled after manager Manuel Pellegrini was unable to give Milner any assurances about his future role with the club.
