Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is ready to cut his losses and swap British record signing Angel Di Maria for Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentinian striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Previously Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was looking to bring Lavezzi to Anfield after it was suggested that Lavezzi had fallen out with PSG boss Laurent Blanc and was looking to leave the French champions.

Knowing that the 29-year-old will almost certainly leave the Parc des Princes next summer van Gaal has entered the race and may well hold the trump card if the reports are true, and that he is prepared to lose Di Maria to get a deal done.

Di Maria moved to Old Trafford last summer for £59.7 million, but could have quite easily moved to France with PSG said to be long time admirers of the former Real Madrid and Benfica winger.

Di Maria spoke about nearly going to Paris, but said he did not because the club had problems with the FFP regulations.

“PSG, they had a money problem and they couldn’t buy players,” he said.

“It could have been a good experience for me to go to Paris.

“I know I’m still young, perhaps I’ll go to PSG one day. I don’t know how it will all end.”
