Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has told German sports newspaper Kicker that German international defender Mats Hummels will not be joining Manchester United this summer after having decided to remain with the North Rhine Westphalia club.

Up until now it was wildly expected that Hummels would be moving to Old Trafford following manager Jurgen Klopp and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan’s departure from the club after a disappointing season that will see them miss out on European football next season.

This latest report in Kicker suggests that Hummels has now told Manchester United that he will not be joining them this summer.

Zorc is quoted telling Kicker: “It was legitimate that Mats was thinking about his future but I always pointed out that we plan with him.”

This of course is massive news for BVB who were worried that they would face a mass exodus of players this summer, and could also help confirm the rumours coming out of Argentina that the Reds Devils have made a massive bid for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi.
