This could be bad news for both Manchester United and Arsenal should Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan decide to stay at Dortmund and play for new trainer Thomas Tuchel, with his agent now claiming it is a possibility.

The Germany international said in April he would not be renewing his contract, which runs out next summer, and Manchester United and Arsenal were strongly linked with a move.

But Gundogan’s agent – and uncle – Ilkay Gundogan, told Sueddeutsche Zeitung the 24-year-old could be set to make a U-turn and commit to the Bundesliga side.

“This is clearly an option again,” he said.

“There are several things in favour of Ilkay finding back to his old level and doing that in a familiar, comfortable environment.”
