News this week that new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to swoop in and sign unsettled Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is an indication the Blues will mount a title challenge next season.

Mourinho signed a four-year agreement with Chelsea on Monday and the online betting news has been awash with transfer speculation linking some of Europe’s best players to the London club, with Dzeko reportedly high on the Portuguese’s shopping list.

The striker, 27, has struggled to hold down a place in City’s XI this season despite his clear goalscoring talent and during the early stages of the campaign earned the unwanted ‘super sub’ tag for his goals off the bench.

The Bosnia international is too good not to play regular football and he must leave Eastlands this summer to stand any chance of resurrecting his club career. Chelsea would be a perfect destination, for Dzeko offers something the team don’t currently have: presence.

While Fernando Torres continues to struggle in front of goal Demba Ba’s fitness cannot be relied upon; Mourinho needs more than this pair if he is to win the Premier League and requires a robust centre forward prepared to throw his body around – much like Didier Drogba once did.

Dzeko’s arrival, plus the return of Romelu Lukaku from an impressive loan season at West Brom, could see this Chelsea forward line transform overnight and many Premier League betting punters already believe they are favourites for the title because of it.

Despite Mourinho’s conservative approach to winning games the Blues will score goals for fun next season and Dzeko would be stupid not to join the party. With Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard feeding the forward line, punters can expect a goal fest at Stamford Bridge with two new strikers leading the way.
