Chelsea is preparing to sell Nigerian international John Obi Mikel as they try to hijack Arsenal’s move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira according to the Daily Express.

Despite already having purchased Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his midfield before the start of the new season, and with a £60 million move for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba looking as if it is dead in the water the Portuguese manager has turned his attention to the highly rated German international Khedira who should be available for around £20 million.

Arsenal were close to signing Khedira from Real Madrid before coming up against a stumbling block when the 27-year-old told them he expected to be paid the same £150,000 per-week wage he was making in Spain.

The salary issue for Chelsea will not be a problem, with the only trouble the Blues could face is who to drop from the squad to make room for Mourinho’s former player.

At the moment it is looking very much as if Nigerian international John Obi Mikel will be the fall guy after having only played in 11 games for Chelsea last season, and with reports coming out of Italy saying that the 27-year-old has been offered to a number of Serie A teams including Inter Milan for £10 million it would appear as though his time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end.
