After some promising signs it now appears that Liverpool’s hopes of signing Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno are now over after the two sides failed to agree a price.

The Reds will now turn their attention elsewhere with Swansea City defender Ben Davis who seems the most likely candidate, despite the Swans already turning down and £8 million offer from the Merseysiders.

Liverpool had an initial bid of £20 million turned down by Sevilla in May for the Spanish international, but approached Sevilla once more to try and tempt them with the offer of striker Iago Aspas and cash but the Spanish club would not budge on their £20 million valuation of Moreno forcing Liverpool to walk away despite agreeing to let Sevilla have Aspas on loan.

Another possible candidate was Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira, but the player has since moved to Atletico Madrid in order to replace Filipe Luís who looks to be on his way to Chelsea.

Given this move you would think that Ryan Bertrand would want to leave Stamford Bridge, which might very well happen but not to Liverpool who manager Jose Mourinho sees as a threat, leaving Ben Davis now the obvious choice.

We here at Soccer Transfers expect to see the Reds make an improved offer for the Swansea player in the coming days with the Welsh club apparently holding all the cards knowing that the left-back slot is one position Liverpool needs to have cover for.
