Chelsea is now poised to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic for £8 million after having allowed Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel to join the Potters on a season long loan.

Stoke City boss mark Hughes is keen to get business done quickly after having snapped up Aston Villa keeper Shay Given earlier in the week, and would like to have van Ginkel available for their pre-season tour of Asia.

Bosnian international Asmir Begovic was Blues boss, Jose Mourinho’s first choice to replace veteran Petr Cech as Chelsea’s number two to Thibaut Courtois, and was quite happy to see 22-year-old van Ginkel be left out on loan for another season with no real place for the Dutchman in his current team.
