Chelsea is now in the driver’s seat to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi for £21.7million after Real Madrid drops out of the race for the 22-year-old Argentinian.

Chelsea has learnt this season that they need a quality striker up-front as due to Diego Costa’s delicate hamstring there is bound to be times when he will not be fit enough to deliver 100%.

Icardi has scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for the club making him one of Serie A’s hottest prospects, but according to Spanish football newspaper Marca his “bad boy” reputation and the fact he stole Argentinian teammate Maxi Lopez’s wife hasn’t done much for his reputation either.

His recent refusal to sign a new contract has many people guessing that he will be leaving Roberto Mancini’s team this summer with Chelsea now leading the race to sign him.
