In what could be bad news for Arsenal, Chelsea has apparently entered the race for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and is willing to make the Italians a £29.1 million offer.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is in the market for one top striker this summer to not only put pressure on Diego Costa according to Fichajes.net, but after seeing how the Brazilian born Spaniard suffers from hamstring problems knows he needs to be rested and cannot play in ever Blues game.

Add to this the departure of Didier Drogba and you have a striker opening at Stamford Bridge that Mourinho wants to fill with a quality player.

The 27-year-old Argentinian international has proved himself in Europe playing for Real Madrid before Napoli signed him as a replacement for the PSG bound Edinson Cavani, and is said to be looking for a move away from the Italians after they failed to qualify for Champions League football next season.

If the truth be told Higuain is just as good if not better than Diego Costa, which makes us wonder if there is any truth to the rumours that Costa was not happy in London and that he wanted to return to Spain, which if is the case would make Chelsea’s interest in the top striker even more understandable.

Arsenal meanwhile knows that the Napoli man is exactly the type of player they need to bring to the Emirates so it will be interesting to see how this story develops.
