Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick thinks that Wayne Rooney is approaching the peak in his career, and is capable of getting even better in the coming months.

It was Rooney’s 28th birthday yesterday which he shares with Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, and teammate Carrick thinks there is still more to come from the England international.

Rooney has found the back of the net five times for United in ten appearances with Carrick saying we have not seen the best of Rooney yet.

“If he wants to, Wayne can carry on playing for a long time yet,” said Carrick.

“He is coming into his peak years now. I am sure he is looking to improve and he is playing well.

“As players, you have good spells and spells where it doesn’t quite go for you.

“Wayne is having a great one at the moment and I am sure it will continue.”
