Manchester United’s plan to bring in top players saw them sign Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British transfer record of £59.7 million.

Although there have been criticism from many on the transfer but knowing if the player is worth that amount is left to be seen in a sinking Manchester United squad.

Considering the fact that there was no major competitor with Manchester United for his signature some feel the club over paid for the Argentine signature, but the recent hike in transfer activities won’t make things go easy for the United board as Real Madrid were ready to recoup on the midfielder after signing James Rodriguez from Monaco for a high figure.

Angel Fabian Di Maria Hernandez was born on the 14th day of February, 1988 in Rosario, Argentina.

The 5ft 11in tall player started his football career in Rosario Central where he played as a youth player for 10 years before been promoted to the senior team in 2005.

He spent two years in the senior team of Rosario Central before representing Argentina U-20 in 2007.

2007 also saw Angel Di Maria move to Benfica of Portugal for around 8-10 million euros.

Di Maria grew to be a major force in the Portuguese league with many excited with this talent and dribbling abilities.

In 2008, Angel Di Maria was part of the Olympic gold medal winning team of Argentina scoring an audacious chip against Nigeria in the finals.

In 2010, Real Madrid bought Di Maria for about 25 million euros with reported 11 million euros for add-ons.

Four years in Real Madrid saw him claim the La Liga title, Copa Del Rey, UEFA super cup, Spanish cup and UEFA Champions League.

The creative midfielder was known for his ability to assist other players in scoring which makes him the third player with assist after Mesut Ozil and Lionel Messi in Europe.

Di Maria’s performance in the UEFA Champions League final was top notch as he claimed the man of the match award.

His once link up with Mesut Ozil, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema was highly potent and pushed to the midfield with the arrival of Bale, Di Maria relied with 17 assists in 27 starts.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is excited with the capture of Angel Di Maria likening it to his capture of Arjen Robben for Bayern Munich in 2009.

Di Maria’s ability to play from the central midfield position, attacking midfield and on the flanks makes him so much of an asset and he’s expected to be a bundle of creativity outlet for Manchester United.

The work rate and vision of the player can’t go unnoticed with him having 17 assists last season for Real Madrid in the La Liga.

Angel Di Maria is expected to train with the team Thursday and later on unveiled in a press conference as they build up to an away trip against Burnley.

Club legends Gary Pallister and Lee Sharpe have joined in welcoming the Argentine pointing out his pace and experience will be a big profit for the club.

It’s believed the versatility of Di Maria will pay off and he will be an exciting player to watch.
