Reports out of Spain carried by this morning’s Daily Mirror claim that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is to be offered a lifeline from his World Cup hell by Barcelona, who are still interested in the Uruguayan despite the fact he may face a lengthy ban after biting Italian defender Georgio Chiellini live on TV.

The rumour claims that the Catalans are ready to offer Liverpool an £80 million player plus cash deal that could include Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez and Spanish international Pedro.

The rumour also suggest that the other Spanish club Liverpool have now cooled their interest following this latest incident and that Liverpool must now decide on whether they want to sell Suarez to Barcelona or ride the storm out.

Meanwhile Suarez is in denial over the incident with the Uruguayans claiming it is all a media conspiracy designed to make Suarez look guilty of something they claim he did not do despite the television evidence that shows otherwise.

Suarez’s lawyer Alejandro Balbi, has claimed the striker is being singled out for special punishment saying: “We don’t have any doubts that this has happened because it’s Suarez and, secondly, because Italy was eliminated.

“There’s a lot of pressure from England [also eliminated from the same group] and Italy. We’re polishing off a defence argument.

“There is a possibility that they ban him, because there are precedents, but we’re convinced that it was an absolutely casual play, because if Chiellini can show a scratch on one shoulder, Suarez can show a bruised and almost-shut eye.

“If every player starts showing the injuries he suffers and they open inquiries for them everything will be way too complicated in the future.

“We’re going to use all the arguments possible so that Luis gets out in the best possible way.”
