While all the talk of a deal linking Italian striker Mario Balotelli to the Emirates is making the headline news for Arsenal, with suggestions that team kit sponsor Puma who also sponsor the Italian striker are willing to help get a deal done, we here at Soccer Transfers believe that it is a smokescreen for the Gunners real target Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic.

While there is no denying that Balotelli is a gifted footballer we find it hard to comprehend that Arsene Wenger really wants to take a chance on the man that AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi wants so desperately to leave the San Siro, when the Gunners can pick up Croatian international striker Mario Mandzukic for half the price the Rossoneri would be willing to accept for Balotelli.

To add weight to our point the Daily Express is reporting that while Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is in Brazil covering the matches for French television the 64-year-old was spotted watching Croatia play Cameroon where he saw the 28-year-old score twice.

Chelsea and Inter Milan have also been linked to Mandzukic, but if rumours are to believed, it is thought he would prefer a move to the Emirates over the other alternatives.
