Soon to be cash rich Atletico Madrid must face the reality that some of their top players will be leaving this summer and that if they are to have any chance of retaining the La Liga crown manager Diego Simone must bring in some quality replacements.

Already on the cards is the fact that Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Tiago are all expected to join Chelsea, and that should Manchester United or Barcelona follow through with their threat to buy Koke, Atletico will make a move by offering Arsenal £18 million for Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla according to the Daily Star.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made no indication that he is prepared to sell the man who scored a goal in last month’s FA Cup final victory over Hull City leave, but given the fact Cazorla is 29-years-old the Frenchman would be stupid not to at least listen to what Atletico would be willing to offer.

Add to this the fact that Atletico defender Juanfran who just turned down the chance to join Arsenal is doing his best to convince Cazorla to return to Spain.

“I’m trying to convince everyone that no one should leave, and with many of the selection [Spanish national team] I’m trying to convince them to come to Atletico Madrid,” said Juanfran.

“Santi [Cazorla] is one of them.”
