After having appeared to have lost faith first in Wojciech Szczesny following a series of mistakes the Polish number one was dropped in favour of Colombian international David Ospina who despite three easy games came undone last weekend in the match against Spurs, when he showed that he did not command the box when it came to high crosses often mistiming hit attempts to clear the ball.

This has led the Sun to report that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has identified Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as the man Wenger wants in nets for next season after identifying the 22-year-old as the next Jens Lehmann.

Arsenal will not be the only European club interested in the German U-21 international with Leverkusen unlikely to let him leave for less than £25 million.

Barcelona were said to be watching the young German before they were banned from making transfers for a year, and Liverpool may also have something to say as they look to replace Simon Mignolet.

Wenger meanwhile is thought to be furious with Szczesny’s attitude and will sell him in the summer, yet may keep Ospina on as the clubs number two despite his obvious failings.
