Chelsea defender Gary Cahill arrived at Stamford Bridge three years ago after the Blues paid Bolton Wanderers £7 million for his services, and since then he has only gotten better, establishing himself as not only a starter in the Chelsea team, but also England’s preferred centre-back.

At only 29-years-old Cahill still has plenty of playing time ahead of him, yet it might not be at Chelsea for much longer as French international Kurt Zouma appears to have moved ahead of him in the pecking order despite starting the season as manager Jose Mourinho’s third choice centre-back.

Zouma has only made a few starts for the Blues but has shown himself to be more than capable in the first team winning praise from the pundits and the fans alike for the way he has stepped up to the role, and despite Cahill starting against Aston Villa last week the former Dronfield youth did not look at his best as he hasn’t done all season.

The 20-year-old former Lyon player made a great case for him being a starter in the team after the performance he put in against Manchester City keeping Sergio Aguero quiet for the entire match.

This will not have gone unnoticed by Cahill, and with what many would call an entire team of players who all deserve to be starters Cahill will not relish spending his time on the bench watching the young Frenchman become the Portuguese managers preferred choice.

This gives Cahill two options, with him either having to up his game and show Mourinho that he deserves to be the starter, or tell his agent that he should start to find a new team for him to play at.
